Best Gardens in Sydney

May is a special time of year for Sydneysiders because it’s the garden season. These are some of the best gardens in Sydney that you can visit during this lovely month.

Featherdale Wildlife Park

In Paddington, there is a bird zoo called Featherdale Wildlife Park. It has a Tropical Fruit & Aviary tour where guests get to explore the lush fruit-filled rainforests and see kookaburras, cockatoos, blue wrens, parrots and rainbow lorikeets. This last one is incredible because all their tongues are the same colour as the fruit they eat!

The Australian Botanic Garden

Another great place in Paddington is The Australian Botanic Garden in Mount Annan. Right now they have millions of beautiful flowers blooming, including the blue flowering wattle ( Acacia baileyana ) and pink-flowered waxflowers ( Chamelaucium axillare ). They also have a special exhibition called Flowers of War, showing off plants that were used during World War I.

Sanctuary Koala Gardens

In Centennial Park, there is Sanctuary Koala Gardens. Guests can see koalas in their natural habitat and hold a koala. There are also kangaroos that people can feed and pet!

Tumbalong Park

Head to Darling Harbour in Sydney to visit Tumbalong Park. The area was transformed into an all-ages outdoor playground with food stalls, carnival games and entertainment for kids. Right now, they’re hosting the Rainbows End Festival where everyone gets dressed up in bright colours and big smiles.

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

Another great place to visit is the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. They’re hosting an Indigenous Plant Walk where you will learn about local medicinal plants like the coolibah ( Eucalyptus coolabah ), desert bloodwood ( Corymbia terminalie ) and the blue devil ( Erythrina flabelliformis ). Visitors can also try bush tucker cooked over an open fire by an aboriginal elder!

The Circle Garden

Warrane College is one of Sydney’s oldest universities, but did you know they have a gorgeous Japanese-style garden called The Circle Garden? It was built in 1988 to commemorate Australia-Japan relations after WWII. Each plant, rock or stone has its meaning and story that expresses itself in the design of the garden. In May, they always have a special exhibition to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The Goat House

A hidden gem in Sydney is The Goat House. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a house shaped like a goat! You can find this magnificent sight at Harmony Park by Circular Quay. However, there are no goats inside so please don’t get your hopes up!

Cloudehill Gardens

If you’re travelling outside of Sydney, check out Cloudehill Gardens. They’re known for their tranquil outdoor spaces filled with native Australian plants from birds to butterflies. Many of the trees here were grown from seeds brought back from Captain Cook’s voyages in 1770. Some of these trees are more than 200 years old!

Wollemi National Park

There’s also the Wollemi Wilderness in Wollemi National Park. This park has a special tree called a Wollemi Pine (Wollemia Nobilis). It was thought to be extinct until one day some people found it growing in a very deep canyon. Now they have thousands of these trees from different ages! Not only that but there are lots of other animals here too like echidnas and wallabies.

You can get outfitted with special equipment for an underground journey into the heart of this ancient landscape.

Blue Mountains

A place not too far from Sydney is the Blue Mountains. This park has a variety of plants and animals like kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and even koalas! There are also 50 different types of birds here. Plus there’s lots of beautiful scenery along with incredible gorges, eucalypt forests and rainforests.

The Royal National Park

The Royal National Park is another great choice because it was made for everyone to enjoy! Visitors can discover nature through education programs, access trails or just visit to take in all the sights. It’s where you’ll find pristine coastlines, swimming spots, views of lush cliffs and beaches. Even though it’s very big (about 4 times the size of Central Park), visitors never have trouble getting around because there are train and bus stops.

Other places you should see are the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay, Bondi Beach, Luna Park and Darling Harbour. There’s a lot more to do in this city than just looking at gardens! If you’re a nature lover, Australia has it all. So don’t forget to check it out next time you visit!

Sole Trader: Things To Consider

A sole trader is a business person who owns his or her own business. This means that they are liable for all debts incurred by the company. If the company cannot pay its bills, this person will be held personally responsible. When people think about starting a new business many of them consider being their boss to be one of the main benefits that come with owning your own business.

Top Four Questions For a Professional Prop Trader | Forex Academy

However, it also brings with it greater responsibility and there are certain things you should know before you decide to go into business on your own as a sole trader.

1) Responsibility

The first and most important thing you need to be aware of as a sole trader is that you’re entirely responsible for everything related to your business: debt, taxes and profits. It doesn’t matter if the company is at fault, you’ll be held personally accountable for anything they do or fail to do.

2) Capital Requirements

When starting a business as a sole trader, it can be helpful but is not necessary to have some capital behind you. These funds will help with establishing the business and keeping it running during its early stages of life when there often isn’t much, if any, money coming in. As your sole trade business grows and becomes more profitable these initial costs can easily be covered and ideally even provide a good return on investment.

3) Expanding the Business

One of the most important things required by any business is expansion. A common problem with sole traders is that they typically lack both the time and financial freedoms needed to focus on growing their business. In addition to this, they can often find themselves lacking the expertise required to take their company to a higher level of success.

4) Limited Financial Security

Sole traders have limited financial security for several reasons: they cannot draw a salary from their business and depending on how successful it is, they may be unable to save any money for a rainy day. A sole trader also has no entitlement to receive contribution-based benefits such as sick pay or holiday pay.

This is because running a sole trade company means you are self-employed which automatically withholds these entitlements from you even if you work more than 30 hours per week.

5) Taxation

When starting in business as a sole trader, taxation can be worth considering. Taxation for self-employed people is considerably higher than what you would pay as an employee and this difference can vary depending on where you’re located. The best course of action if possible is to speak with the taxman directly before making any decisions about your company structure or leaving full-time employment.

Sole traders are responsible for their taxes, which means that they must submit tax returns every year and pay income tax on any earnings their business makes.

6) Personal Liability

There’s nothing worse than seeing your hard work go up in smoke because you failed to protect yourself from personal liability by thinking through all of the risks properly. As a sole trader, there is no limit to the amount of personal liability you could face if something goes wrong, so it’s important to take steps to protect yourself and your business.

7) Retirement Planning

One of the biggest concerns for any sole trader is how they’ll be able to fund their retirement and ensure that they will have enough money in savings by the time they leave the workforce. Since self-employed workers don’t qualify for certain benefits such as company pension schemes, much of this responsibility falls on them.

There are several alternatives when it comes to funding your retirement but regardless of which one you choose, this is something that should be taken into consideration before becoming a sole trader.

8) Outsourcing

As a sole trade business owner, there may come a time when you want or need to outsource tasks to free up some of your time. This could be anything from ordering stock, bookkeeping, writing a marketing plan to send invoices.

Asking friends and family members for help won’t cut it when you are running a business because they are likely not professional enough to handle these matters on your behalf. Outsourcing is very common with many different types of businesses but is particularly true for sole traders.

9) Contribution-Based Benefits

As mentioned earlier, contribution-based benefits such as sick pay or holiday pay are not available if you’re self-employed. If you have employees then the situation is slightly easier, however, if you don’t have any employees then these entitlements are not available to you and if you’re planning on growing your business by taking on employees at some point then it’s wise to consider this.

10) Limited Growth Potential

As a sole trader, your ability to grow your business without help is likely going to be limited. This is because as the owner of the company, you will usually have one of two roles: either running the day-to-day tasks such as marketing and administration or doing all of the work yourself.

The growth potential for most sole traders is somewhat limited because they can’t afford to hire additional staff or outsource certain tasks so their capacity for growth is restricted by this.

11) Limited Resources

Sole traders often lack access to support and development which can sometimes slow growth and hinder progress. It’s not uncommon for sole traders to run into problems that they can’t tackle on their own, such as insufficient funds or lack of knowledge in a certain area. This is where seeking expert advice from professionals such as lawyers or accountants could be very beneficial.

12) One Set Of Tax Forms

One of the biggest risks with becoming self-employed is the risk of making mistakes because you don’t understand all of the tax implications involved. Since creating your company structure will take up significant time, it’s often best to seek advice from an accountant so you aren’t left with any nasty surprises down the line.

Due to this reason, there are actually some benefits to being a sole trader but it’s important that you are aware of the risks before starting your new company.

13) Business Expenses

Since sole traders are responsible for all of the business expenses, not just ones that directly relate to earning money, there is a chance they could spend too much or fail to keep records up-to-date so their net earnings are lower than expected.

This can be quite difficult because it means you have less income tax to pay but if you don’t file these expenses properly then this could result in more problems down the line.

14) More Stress

Unfortunately becoming self-employed also often has some hidden stress factors that many people aren’t expecting. It’s not uncommon for some single founders to experience depression during the first few years in business, which means they have to take time off work in order to recover.

This can obviously cause problems if you are your own boss because it means you don’t have the luxury of being able to call in sick without worrying about how you will be paid.

15) No Sick Pay

As mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as sick pay when you run a company on your own. The UK even has a system called state health care, meaning that if something happens and you become physically or mentally incapable of working then there won’t be any compensation for this loss of earnings.

You need to be able to totally rely on yourself and not fear for your income if something like this were ever to happen.

How Do You Set Up Grazing Boxes

People often think of catering as a pricey luxury, but with clever planning and efficient space utilisation, you can cut down on food waste and keep costs under control. One such way to save money is by using grazing boxes rather than serving platters. Read this article for tips on how to set up grazing boxes successfully.

86 Grazing Boxes ideas | food platters, charcuterie recipes, charcuterie and cheese board

1) Make an Inventory List of Your Dishes:

Before you start setting up your event, make sure you have an inventory list of each dish and its respective location in the kitchen (e.g., table 1, top; Table 12, bottom). This will help ensure that dishes don’t run out unexpectedly and that they are replaced promptly wherever needed. Furthermore, check the number of servings against the number of people attending the event, to make sure you have enough food.

2) Organise Your Dishes into Grids:

Using a marker pen, label the back of each dish with an identifying number or letter. Each plate should be labelled with one definite identifier to avoid confusion later on. Then, use glass serving platters for dishes that are meant to be served hot, and plastic trays for chilled items.

Note which presentation each dish should receive (e.g., vegetables served in bowls). Place all of the identified serving plates in one large grid on the kitchen countertop so that they can be easily carried out when catering events begin.

3) Place Grazing Boxes at Each Table:

The advantage of grazing boxes over platters of food is that there is no need to consider the presentation of each dish; which makes them ideal for casual events like summer picnics. To arrange your grazing boxes, start by placing large dishes at the bottom (e.g., for serving slices of cold meats or cheese); these can be placed on low tables if necessary.

Place small bowls and plates above these larger ones (e.g., olives). Use smaller platters for fillings such as French fries, vegetables, dips and spreads. Arrange crudités in tall glasses with some sort of colourful garnish (e.g., parsley sprigs) around them to enhance their appeal.

4) Serve Your Guests:

The best way to serve your guests from your grazing boxes is to let them serve themselves. As a courtesy, provide serving utensils such as tongs or forks for use in the larger dishes and refresh these items if they get dirtied during the meal.

If you’re not sure where to find catering supplies or professional catering equipment, we can help! We provide an easy way of reaching out to top caterers and suppliers in every city and state who go through our Platform to post their services and request quotes.

5) Size

The size of the box you need is dependent on how many people you are catering to and how much food they eat (obviously). With that said, there are some general guidelines for setting up grazing boxes:

A good portion size for one serving would be between 6-8 ounces; remember, these servings are not huge like standard restaurant servings. If this amount seems too small, increase it. If people take more than one serving then things could get messy quite quickly! Keep in mind that most people usually want 1-2 servings of protein, 1-2 servings of starches and 1-2 servings of vegetables.

6) Setting Up Like A Buffet

Another thing to remember is that you cannot put everything into one box – or else it’s just too overwhelming for people to graze on. Grazing boxes should be set up similarly to the way you set up a display at a buffet table; it should be arranged so that the food seems enticing and appetizing while still allowing for food variety.

7) Quantity

As far as how much food should be put into each box, that all depends on how hungry people are and how long until the event will start. There is no exact formula for this because every event is different! Many catering companies like to use 1 pound of protein per person (in addition to veggies, starches and desserts) as well as 2 pounds of non-starchy vegetables and starches (like bread and salad).

Again – these numbers can vary greatly depending on your event, so make sure you do some research beforehand to get a better estimate of how much food you will need.

Practical Guide On How To Get A Property Tax Withholding Clearance Certificate

Did you know that it is a legal requirement for every resident and non-resident to apply for a property tax withholding clearance certificate? If ever your name doesn’t appear in the list of registered owners, you may apply for a withholding certificate. This document simply states your compliance with BIR’s directive on real estate taxation and serves as proof that you’re already compliant with the law.

If ever there will be any doubt about your compliance you’ll get notified by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) through its official letter asking for payment of taxes and/or updating status within 30 days from the date of receipt or face penalties such as fines and surcharges.

Keep in mind that you’re also obliged to declare your property’s fair-market value, the current year and all taxable income. You must be aware of this especially if you own more than one property because it will be taxed accordingly.

What Is Property Tax Withholding?

As mandated by law, withholding is a process that requires an owner to remit real estate tax payment quarterly through his/her bank account instead of paying it personally at BIR regional offices or directly at its main office in Quezon City.

A certificate will then be issued for every remittance made with BIR as proof that taxes have been paid. In contrast to self-assessment where owners are required to pay the full amount due before applying for a tax waiver, under withholding an owner can still pay the tax without applying for a clearance certificate.

What Are The Benefits Of Applying For a Property Tax Withholding Clearance Certificate?

Aside from proving that you’ve paid your dues to BIR, there are also other benefits in having this document although no monetary refund will be given to you. If ever your property is sold or transferred, withholding certificates will serve as proof of compliance with BIR. It’s the same thing if the ownership of the property changes hands while upon application for transfer of withholding certificate, it’s considered voluntary acceptance by the new owner.

You may avail yourself even of an instalment payment plan if it has already been offered by your bank plus zero interest rate on late payments for three months.

Who Can Apply For Property Tax Withholding Certificate?

Non-resident and resident withholding certificates can be applied by:

1. Individual/joint applicant(s) whose name appears as the registered owner on BIR certification or TOR. However, if the property is under a corporation, all officers must sign the application form.

2. In the case of multiple owners, at least one person with the authority to represent the others should apply for it. There are two options here – co-registered owner who acts as a representative or authorized representative from the management office of condominium corporations/subdivisions.

3. If ever names appear in TOR but not in BIR certification, they must attach a copy of TOR and request for correction through a special power of attorney before applying for a withholding certificate.

What Are The Documents Required?

Following documents must be submitted when applying for a withholding certificate:

1. Signed Special Power of Attorney (SPA) in favour of representative or request by management office/ association for correction of TOR and BIR certification;

2. Four (4) original copies of the duly-accomplished application form;

3. Payment voucher covering tax due;

4. Latest BIR Form No. 2307 (if there’s any), TOR, Certificate Authorizing Registration (CAR) with attached photocopy of Torrens title, latest mortgage contract and TCT; and,

5. If the property is registered under a corporation, submit amended BIR Form 1701 showing the actual number and percentage shareholdings of the individual stockholders.

How Long Will It Take To Get The Certificate?

A withholding certificate may be released anytime within 30 days upon receipt of all requirements submitted by the applicant. If it’s not, BIR will send you formal notice to explain why your application is still under review or why they haven’t received complete requirements yet.

What Is The Fee For Property Tax Withholding Clearance Certificate (PWTC)?

For individuals who want either non-residential or resident withholding certificates, the fee will only be P200 for each type through cash payment at the local Revenue District Office (RDO) that has jurisdiction over your property. However, if you don’t fall under these categories but need PWTC anyway (e.g. you’re applying for transfer or correction of TOR) it will cost you P450 per type.

Should You Buy or Build a Home?

Whether you’re just starting or looking to move, the first question that usually pops up is whether it would be better to buy or build a home. The answer isn’t quite so straightforward as it may seem. There are many factors to consider, some of which are more important than others depending on your particular circumstances. Click here for more details.

Building a Home? How Do You Even Begin? | Homes.com

Here are some things to think about when considering whether to purchase or construct your new place.

Price

It’s no surprise that prices are one of the most important things you should take into consideration when thinking about building versus buying a new house. If buying is cheaper, then naturally it makes sense for you to go forward with purchasing an existing house. However, if the building can get you more living space for less money, then it may make more sense as a financial investment.

Value

n addition to considering how much your potential new house will cost you, you should also think about the value of the home after you move in. The extra space that you’ll have by a building can be a great selling point for your house if and when it comes time to put it up for sale, but only if you’ve constructed a quality home that’s worth its price tag.

If buying is cheaper than building, then the money that could be made on resale won’t matter as much, since your new house will be cheaper than all of those currently on the market. Still, spending less on buying isn’t always an indicator of savings; depending on whether or not you’re in a growing or shrinking market, you could end up overpaying for your house if you purchase too soon.

Complexity

If buying is cheaper than building, then the money that could be made on resale won’t matter as much because of how simple it can be to find what you need on the spot after purchasing an existing house instead of having to wait for construction. But of course, if constructing is less expensive than buying, then the opposite may hold; sometimes it’s worth waiting for everything that goes into building a quality home before moving in.

The complexity also comes into play when you think about all of the additional things that go into maintaining both buildings and homes once they’re complete. Of course, some things are necessary for any house, but if you construct your own then there are the additional costs of hiring people to build it for you.

If buying is cheaper than building, then you’ll also have to pay someone else to care for the property while you’re not using it. Since maintenance costs more on a newly constructed home, keep in mind that they can end up being more expensive depending on where your new house is located.

Land

One of the biggest differences between buying and building comes down to whether or not you will need to purchase some land first before beginning construction. On average, the building is much more affordable than purchasing land due to its typically large size; unless purchasing price per square foot has drastically changed since last time, having to buy new land can quickly make building a home more expensive than buying an existing house.

Speed

Of course, the speed of construction is another of the most important things to think about when deciding whether to build or buy. If you don’t want to wait long before moving into your new place, then purchasing might be better for you even if it’s more expensive because you won’t have to put in nearly as much time waiting for your dream house to be finished.

On the other hand, if you can afford either option and are excited about designing your own dream home from scratch, then the building will be ideal. Either way, it’s important to consider everything that goes into each choice before deciding which one is right for you!

On a side note, you can save a lot of money by building a home on your land.
