Guitar without skills
If you have a Nintendo DS kicking about and you can get a copy of Jam Session then you have everything you need to add a real guitar sound to your tracks. I came across this piece of software by accident and was amazed at how good it sounds. In freestyle mode you can select chords with DS arrow keys and strum on the screen to your hearts content.
I quickly dumped the stylus and used a medium guitar pick, I hooked up the DS sound port to my laptop mic port and hey presto I was producing fairly decent guitar tracks. I then passed the input through the Amplitube VST plugin and could reproduce any guitar sound I wanted. The only thing missing is that you only have one string to play the whole chord. If it had 6 strings then you could pick out parts of a chord rather than the whole thing.
The main advantage for me was the fact that it is totally quiet. I can record guitar now in the middle of the night.
Check out these images and videos to get an idea of what you can achieve with what is designed as a toy but ended up being a semi pro tool. If only the DS could produce midi then it would be Pro.
